The man who shot Liberty Valance has been adapted to the stage from the 1962 film of the same name which starred John Wayne, James Stewart and Lee Marvin.
Journey into the Wild West, 1890 in this classic story of good versus evil, law versus the gun, one man versus Liberty Valance. A tale of love, hope and revenge set against the vicious backdrop of a lawless society.
When a young scholar from New York city travels west in search of a new life he arrives beaten and half-dead on the dusty streets of Twotrees. Rescued from the plains, the town soon becomes his home. A local girl gives him purpose in a broken land, but is it enough to save him from the vicious outlaw who wants him dead? He must make the choice: to turn and run or to stand for what he believes, to live or to fight; to become the man who shot Liberty Valance.

Ransome Foster – Male: From New York. Well read and well spoken. He is stubborn and often arrogant but always well meaning. Very large role.
Hallie Jackson – Female: Strong minded, rough talking woman. Owner of the saloon. Underneath her rough exterior is a beautiful and caring individual. Very large role.
Bert Barricune – Playing age of 40-50. Male: He is a true gunslinger. Worn and battered looking but clearly handsome. He speaks only when he must. Large role.
Jim “The Reverend” Mosten – Playing age of 20-40. Male: He is A young swamper. Kind, enthusiastic, well mannered, full of energy and easy to fall in love with. Incredible memory. Large role.
Liberty Valance – Male: He is a Southern Gentleman, but his polite manner doesn’t disguise the scars on his face. He is terrifyingly unpredictable. Large role.
Marshal Johnson – Playing age of 50 plus Male: He talks the talk. When it comes down to it, he’s a coward. Medium role. Could double
Jake Dowitt – Male: Enthusiastic reporter for local paper. Small role. Will double/triple as Deputy.
Voice Over – Any gender. Small. Possible double
